Wedding planner and bridesmaid – All in one day!

Last Friday was one of my biggest challenges yet. It was the much anticipated Wedding of my good friend of 8 years, Stacey and her partner Lawrence. Not only was I overwhelmed when they chose to book me as their Wedding planner, I was speechless to then be chosen also as a bridesmaid for the day.

It is the first time ever for me that I have been both sides of the Wedding day – Planner and Bridesmaid, and all I can say is, wow, I’ll think twice about doing the same again. The emotional rollercoaster began on Tuesday with the final meeting in planner mode, Wednesday then continued with a mini Hen Party for the girls, which I attended and enjoyed in Bridesmaid mode, Thursday saw final preparations (planner mode) and then a girly pamper session (bridesmaid mode). By Friday I think I was just about as nervous as the Bride. We had an early start, ready for a 1pm ceremony and not only did I have all of my usual tasks – Setting up the venue, organising the transport, re-confirming pick-ups with drivers, paying suppliers and notifying the hotel of final amendments, I also had my bridal party responsibilities – Bringing champagne and nibbles up to the hotel for the bridal party, having my hair done, doing my make-up and generally calming the bride. Let’s just say it was a VERY busy morning!

Looking back on the day now, ever second of worry and work was worthwhile as we had such an amazing day and night and the bride was absolutely breath-taking. I think though if I were to do the double roles again I’d definitely enlist a helping hand on the day itself – Maybe a planner’smaid?
